THE STORY OF NUJOUD

“The Story of Nujoud” a mobile shadow puppet and storytelling show is a multidisciplinary performance that combines 2 artistic expressions deeply rooted in our eastern origins, storytelling & shadow theater performance. The performance aims to contribute to reviving a traditional arts medium that is fading away. The Story of Nujoud is a fictional tale about a little girl called Nujoud who lives in a city by the sea. Every night she greets the moon from her window. But one night the moon stopped shining in the sky. Instead, it cries & floods the whole country with its tears. Nujoud understands that she has to go on a quest to bring back the light to the moon and save the city from the flood. The British Council supported the performance in 2021 which toured across Lebanon performing to youth living in vulnerable and underserved communities. It was also showcased during the festival “Us, the Moon and the Neighbors” (2021).

حكاية نجود

حكاية نجود عرض متنقل يجمع بين مسرح خيال الظل وفن الحكي، وهو أداء متعدد الوسائط يجمع بين شكلين فنيين متأصلين في تراثنا الشرقي: فن الحكي وأداء مسرح الظل، بهدف المساهمة في إحياء وسيط فني تقليدي آخذ في الاندثار. ”حكاية نجود“ قصة خيالية عن فتاة صغيرة تُدعى نجود تعيش في مدينة تطل على البحر. كل ليلة تُحيي نجود القمر من نافذة غرفتها، لكن في إحدى الليالي، توقف القمر عن الإشراق في السماء وبدأ بالبكاء وأغرق البلاد بدموعه. تدرك نجود أنها يجب أن تنطلق في رحلة لاستعادة ضوء القمر وإنقاذ المدينة. تمّ تنفيذ العرض بدعم من المجلس الثقافي البريطاني عام 2021 وجال كلّ أنحاء لبنان، وتمّ تقديمه للشباب الذين يعيشون في مجتمعات مهمشة، كما عُرض ضمن فعاليات مهرجان ”نحنا والقمر والجيران“ 2021

KARAKOUZ WA EWAZ

Dima is a performer in “Karakouz and Awaz”, a series of mobile shadow puppetry shows performed in public spaces. The project revives the traditional art of shadow puppetry, a powerful, a powerful tool historically used to address social and political issues through humor and satire. By blending entertainment with sharp commentary, it creates a space for dialogue and reflection on everyday challenges. Dima plays Farid — a bold, feminine character who takes on different roles, including a detective in Syrian jails and a smuggler. Farid speaks a mix of Arabic and French, adding additional humor to the show. Through “Karakouz and Awaz”, Dima brings stories to life in unexpected places, using shadows not just for storytelling but as a mirror to society and a voice for change.

كركوز وعواظ

ديمة هي مؤدية في كركوز وعواظ، وهي سلسلة من عروض خيال الظل المتنقلة في الأماكن العامة. يُحيي هذا المشروع فن خيال الظل التقليدي، وهو أداة قوية استُخدمت تاريخيًا لمعالجة القضايا الاجتماعية والسياسية من خلال الفكاهة والسخرية. يجمع المشروع بين الترفيه والتعليق اللاذع، ليخلق مساحة للحوار والتأمل في التحديات اليومية. تؤدي ديمة شخصية فريد — شخصية جريئة وأنثوية تؤدي أدوارًا متعددة، من بينها محقق في سجون سورية ومُهرّب. يتحدث فريد مزيجًا من العربية والفرنسية، مما يضفي فكاهة وسخرية للعرض. من خلال كركوز وعواظ، تُساهم ديمة في إحياء القصص في أماكن غير متوقعة، حيث تُستخدم الظلال ليس فقط لسرد الحكايات، بل كمرآة تعكس المجتمع وكصوت ينادي بالتغيير

This project is a shadow puppet and storytelling performance that manifests the life of prisoners of conscience, reflecting the moments they create light inside complete darkness to help them survive and resist. The artistic production includes an installation built around stories collected from former detainess in the MENA region and infused with a selection of global literature and songs used as a form of resistance to isolation and detention. Dima is the director and has multiple roles in this project, which underwent a significant transformation due to the fall of the Assad regime and the liberation of Syria. The project is being adapted to the current situation, with an expanded focus on collecting stories from former detainees and exploring new aspects of the Syrian context.

المشروع هو عرض خيال ظل وحكواتي متنقل يجسّد حياة معتقلي الرأي، ويعكس اللحظات التي يخلقون فيها الضوء داخل الظلام الدامس لمساعدتهم على البقاء والمقاومة. يشمل الإنتاج الفني تركيبًا مبنيًا حول قصص جُمعت من معتقلين/ات سابقين/ات، ممزوجًا بمجموعة مختارة من الأدب العالمي والأغاني التي استُخدمت كشكل من أشكال المقاومة ضد العزلة والاحتجاز. ديمة هي المخرجة، وتقوم بأدوار عدّة في هذا المشروع الذي مرّ بتحول كبير نتيجة سقوط نظام الأسد وتحرير سوريا. يُعاد تكييف المشروع مع الوضع الحالي، مع تركيز موسّع على جمع القصص من المعتقلين السابقين واستكشاف جوانب جديدة من السياق السوري
